Handwritten Texture Study: Glitter Lettering
While creating Christmas ornaments, which you can see here:
I thought it would be a beautiful detail to introduce a collection title. I’m planning to create a few handmade ornaments each year as small gifts — little personal objects that carry their own story.
I wanted everything to stay within a festive mood, so adding a subtle shimmer felt important. That’s how I came up with the idea of using glitter — but in a more raw, textural way.
This is how these decorative paper fragments with handwritten glitter lettering came to life.
You can find the tutorial for making the paper base here:
You can use this technique in many ways — as place cards, gift tags, or elements for greeting cards.
The process itself is very simple. First, lightly write your text with a pencil. Then, using a thin brush, apply PVA glue following the lines of the letters.
A small tip: it’s best to work in sections — cover 2–3 letters with glue, sprinkle glitter over them, and then move on. This way the glue won’t dry too quickly and the glitter will adhere better.
If a letter doesn’t turn out perfectly, you can easily refine it — for example, using a sewing pin to gently adjust the shape.
Leave everything to dry for a few hours. Once dry, remove the excess glitter with a soft brush — leaving only what enhances the texture of the writing.
Here, text becomes not just information, but part of the structure.
